FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I run a race without a bib?

You can physically run without a race bib, but it’s not allowed in official races. Without a bib, you won’t receive an official time or be recognized as an official participant in a marathon or running competition. Wearing a race bib gives runners the full benefits of participating in the event.

Do race bib magnets work?

Yes, race bib magnets are effective and a popular alternative to safety pins. They securely hold the bib in place without damaging your clothes. Just make sure to use strong, high-quality magnets so the bib doesn’t shift or fall off during the race. However, safety pins are generally recommended because they hold bibs more securely.

Can you wear a race bib on your back?

Yes, in some races—especially cycling events, triathlons, and obstacle races- participants are required to wear bibs or numbers on their backs. They do this so the bibs don’t interfere with movement or equipment. However, in most running races, bibs must be worn on the front so officials, timers, and photographers can easily see them. Always check the specific rules for your race with the registration staff.

Does race bib tape work?

Yes, high-quality, weather-resistant race bib tape can work well. It’s a good alternative to safety pins and won’t damage your clothes. However, in very sweaty or rainy conditions, the tape may lose its grip, so many runners prefer to pin their bibs to their clothes to prevent them from falling off.

What material is used for marathon bibs?

Marathon bibs are most commonly made from Tyvek, a durable, lightweight, and waterproof synthetic material. It’s tear-resistant, making it ideal for long-distance races and harsh weather conditions. Runners appreciate Tyvek bibs because they don’t tear easily, while organizers value their durability and weather resistance.

What is the purpose of bibs?

The purpose of race bibs is to identify each runner during a race. They often display a number, name, or tag, and sometimes include a timing chip to track race times. Bibs also assist organizers with safety and race management, and help photographers identify runners for photo purchases.
